CURRICULUM STATEMENT
Intent
Our PSHE curriculum provides the foundation for children to become healthy, independent and responsible members of society. A Holy Family citizen understands how they are developing personally and socially, and they feel supported and empowered to deal with the moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. They learn about rights and responsibilities and appreciate what it means to be a member of a diverse society. Children develop their sense of self-worth through positive contributions to school life and the wider community.
Implementation
Teachers plan weekly PSHE sessions following the Jigsaw PSHE scheme; a programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education. This is a spiral, progressive scheme of work*. PSHE is also covered in class by regular whole class circle time sessions, group support and/or individual support. The whole school follows the Twelve Baskets assemblies each week which provides good coverage of PSHE topics and is closely linked to Jigsaw sessions.

PSHE at Holy Family is enriched and enhanced by two Catholic Social Teaching programmes: Caritas in Action (which looks at the social teachings of the church) and Building the Kingdom. Teachers make links to the CST themes throughout the Jigsaw programme, but particular opportunities arise for community cohesion, through the promotion of mutual respect and tolerance in a diverse society.
Measuring Impact
Teachers assess the children’s work in PSHE by making informal judgements whilst observing them during lessons and doing informal assessments of their work*. The scheme includes clear expectations of what the pupils will know, understand and be able to do at the end of each key stage. Observations are used to make an annual assessment of progress for each child, as part of their annual report to parents.
