Welcome to Autumn Term

Dear Parents,

Welcome back! I hope you enjoyed your October Half Term.

Please see below for some important points to help you and your child in Year 3.

Miss Pawling is the Year Three teacher and Miss Arthur (AM) and Mrs MacCallam (PM) are the Year Three Teaching Assistants.

Spellings

Spellings will be set each week with a focus on learning the spelling rule. Homework will be given out via ‘Spelling Shed’, and the children will be expected to log on and practice their spellings. There will be no spelling tests, instead I will look for evidence of their spelling throughout their work. The children have logins for Spelling Shed – please message me on class dojo if you need another copy.

Reading

Reading books will be collected in on Mondays to be changed on a Tuesday morning. Children should read at least 5 times a week and this should be recorded on GoRead. It is vital your child reads as often as possible at home (with an adult) to help their reading progress. Talking about their reading will also help to develop their comprehension skills.

Time tables

Children should begin to practice their times tables as often as possible on TT Rockstars. We will be going through this in class so they know their login and how to navigate the site.

We will be practising times tables in class daily.

PE

PE will be taught on a Monday and Thurday so please ensure your child comes in wearing their PE kit on these days.

Swimming will start on the 3rd October. Your child will need to bring a swimming kit (swim suit/trunks, towel and goggles) every Tuesday from this date.

History and Geography

History will be taught in the Autumn and Summer Term and Geography will be taught in the Spring Term.  Our first history unit is the Stone Age, we will learn about the early civilisation and begin to understand why people in the Stone Age had to migrate. Overviews of the curriculum to be covered each term can also be found in the overview tab.

My planning and preparation time will be on a Monday afternoon, children will be taught by Mrs Cross, as well as having Signature Sports.

Dates for this term:

Friday 8th September - Whole school Mass at Holy Family for the new school year 9.30am. If you are able to join us for this, please let us know, again we will be in need of people to walk with us!

It’s going to be a fantastic year!

Many thanks,

Miss Pawling and the Year Three Team
