Conscience Alley

After reading  our new text, The Lost, which is about a boy called Jonah, who one school morning, ( despite his friend’s protestations ) decides to follow a fire engine. He loses the engine quickly but decides to go on, in search of more adventures but soon realises that he is lost, tired and thirsty. With his friend’s advice to turn back still fresh in his mind, ( despite his quest to explore and his wish to be perceived  as someone ‘fearless,’ ) he is left searching his conscience whether to turn back or continue on his ‘journey.’

We formed a conscience alley, with one side made up of children whispering reasons to ‘Jonah’ why he should continue. The other side whispered their reasons why he should turn back; each side trying to persuade Jonah to see their point of view. ‘Jonah’ then had to search his/her conscience and make a choice after searching their informed conscience. Four children walked through our conscience alley, with two saying they would have continued and two saying they would have turned back.
