Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Year 2 – Saint Francis of Assisi

Welcome to the Spring Term!

The Year Two team hope you have enjoyed the Autumn Term. We would like to remind you of the following information which will support your child’s learning in Year Two as this is a really important year for them. We will also continue to use Class Dojo as our main method of communication so please keep an eye out for news and useful information on our School and Class Pages as well as direct messages when face to face communication isn’t possible.

The Team
Miss Hibbert is the class teacher and is assisted every day by Mrs Macallam, Mrs Nyarko and Ms Doinik. If you are interested in volunteer work, hearing children read or helping to prepare resources or displays, we would welcome you to join us so please get in touch!

Daily homework will consist of:
•    Reading (see below)
•   Spelling Shed: completing 7 games over the week, practising spelling the 10 words for that week.

Each term, we will also send home details of a longer homework project linked to our learning in class. Please let us know if you would like any support or advice regarding homework.

Children are encouraged to reread each of their books three times across the week to help build fluency. Talking about their reading will also help to develop their comprehension skills. Children may then go on to read their own books to help foster an enjoyment of reading. Please record on GoRead, this is replacing the yellow record books.

School reading books will normally be checked and changed once a week, this is dependent on your child having read the book fully 5 times. However, your child should bring their book bag to school every day so that they can be heard read regularly in school too. Due to very limited space, we cannot accommodate large bags or rucksacks. A zip wallet or red school book bag is sufficient to carry reading books and letters. Children should carry their water bottle (and lunchbox) separately, to be placed in the boxes provided as they enter the classroom.

P.E. and Outdoor Learning
PE sessions are twice a week on Thursdays and Fridays. Please ensure that PE Kits are labelled and they should be left in school in a named drawstring bag. We will send them home at the end of term, unless they get dirty before then.
Wellingtons can be stored on the pegs provided outside the classroom but outdoor learning clothing should only be brought in as needed. A text will be sent when additional outdoor clothing is required.

If you have any questions about the curriculum, or just want to come in and see what we've been doing, do let us know via Class Dojo.

We look forward to meeting you soon,

Miss Hibbert,
Mr MacCallam, Ms Doinik and Mrs Nyarko.
