Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Year 2 – Saint Francis of Assisi

Dear Parents/Carers

During Terms 5 and 6, Mrs Collins will continue to teach your children on a Monday and Tuesday and hand over to Mrs England for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Mrs Maccallam, Mrs Crofts and Mr Lee will be assisting in the classroom every day. We are also helped by Miss Ryan on a Monday and Mr Bush every morning . Our student teacher, Miss Wright, will be with us until the middle of May and will continue to teach some of your children's lessons under the guidance of Mrs Collins and Mrs England until then.

Our PE sessions this term will still take place on Mondays and Thursdays so please send your children in wearing their PE kit on these days. They can wear black or navy jogging bottoms either over or instead of their white shorts, if the weather is cooler. If your child is unable to tie their own shoe laces, it would be helpful if their laces were double knotted in the morning or if they could wear velcro-fastening shoes. Just a reminder that earrings should either not be worn on a PE day or a plaster put over them.

We have had to cancel swimming lessons for the remainder of the academic year due to the lack of a detailed risk assessment. We will, however, be applying for a week block if there is any late availability to do a concentrated week group of sessions in July if possible. We will let you know when we know any more on this.

We will be having a Forest School day on Wednesday 12th May. A reminder  will be sent out nearer the time.

As part of our multi faith education, we will be having a virtual visit from Rabbi Zvi Solomons on Monday 26th April. He will talk to the children about Judaism and the synagogue. We hope that the children will learn a lot and enjoy finding out about the Jewish way of life.

Reading books need to be brought in on a Friday to enable us to keep them over the weekend and changed on a Monday. It would be fantastic if you could read with your child as often as possible at home and ask them questions about what they have read. Please complete your child's Reading Record and record the number of nights they have read so that they can receive an award.

Your child will continue to have weekly spellings to learn and they will also begin to bring home times table practice sheets. By the end of Year 2, your child is expected to confidently know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables facts so any practice with these will really help.

If your child has something from home that they would like to show the class, please could they bring it in on a Friday when we will be doing our class 'Show and Tell'.

Just a reminder that whilst restrictions are in place, the Year 2 drop off place is at the front gate at 8.40am and collection, again at the front gate, at 3pm.

If you have any questions or concerns, do let us know.

Best wishes

Mrs England, Mrs Collins, Mrs MacCallam, Mrs Crofts and Mr Lee
