Year 4 – St Teresa of Calcutta
Welcome to the Year 4 Class page
I hope that your children had a wonderful Easter break, they have returned with excellent attitudes towards their learning for this fifth term. I am sure they will all continue the year in the same positive way.
I thought that I would send out some reminders:
The children will be given spellings each Monday on Class Dojo, and these should be practised daily.
Spellings are to be completed and returned on the morning of the following Monday when the children will be tested. Please upload these onto Class Dojo, so they can be seen by myself. Please make sure that your child is completing both sides of the sheet.
All pupils will be given two school books to read. We would like children to read at least five times each week. It is vital that a record is made each time they read in their reading record. Each week their reading record will be checked and their reading books will be changed.
Your child’s book needs to be in school on a Friday, and then they will come home with new books on a Monday, They will only be changed if there is evidence in the reading records that they have read. It is helpful if you write that they have completed the book or the pages that they have read.
You can support your child by listening to them read, asking them questions on the text; or by using a dictionary together to discover the meaning of any new vocabulary they encounter etc.
Once your child has reached ONE HUNDRED ‘reading sessions’, they will be rewarded with a book of their choice.
Please note reading books must be in school every day.
- Your child will also be set a Homework Project every term (see attached sheet for more information). Our topic for the next two terms is entitled ‘Traders and Raiders’.
- The children should continue to use their Times Tables Rock Stars logon to practise their times tables. This is very important.
- Please also continue to use Mangahigh for additional Mathematics learning, EPIC for other texts to read and Purple Mash.
P.E. will be taught every Wednesday and Thursday. Your child will be expected to come into school wearing their full P.E. Kit (see letter sent out by Miss Child) on these days. If your child wears earrings they must be able to remove them for P.E. If they cannot remove their earrings, in the interest of safety, please provide them with medical tape to cover them.
To assist in safeguarding your children, please make sure that if your child is going home with someone other than yourself, or different from previously arranged, please inform the school as soon as possible.
If you have any questions, please feel free to come and see me at the beginning or end of the school day.
Thanking you for your support.
