Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Year 4 – St Teresa of Calcutta

Welcome to the Year 4 Class page

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Summer Term!

The children have had an excellent start to the year and have returned with fantastic attitudes towards their learning.

Please see below some important points for you and your child:

Spellings will be taught by the class teacher. Homework will be given out via ‘Spelling Shed’, and the children will be expected to log on and practice their spellings. There will be no spelling tests, instead I will look for evidence of their spelling throughout their work and their understanding of the spelling rules we have covered. The children have logins for Spelling Shed – please message me on class dojo if you need another copy.

Reading books will be collected in on a Tuesday to be changed on a Wednesday morning. To record reading this year, we are using GoRead. It is vital your child reads as often as possible at home (with an adult) to help their reading progress.  Please ensure that a record is made each time your child reads - this can be signed on GoRead by child or parent.  Your child should have a bookmark with 'VIPERS' style questions for them to answer on GoRead when they complete a book.

Reading books should be in school every day.

Time tables

Times tables will be crucial this year as the children will have a times table check at the end of year 4. Children should practice their times tables as often as possible on TT rockstars. It is important they are fluent in all times tables as soon as posisble.

We will regularly practice times tables in school through TT rockstars and times table activities.

PE will be taught on a Monday and children will be going swimming on a Tuesday please ensure your child brings their full PE kit on Monday and a swimming kit on Tuesday. Updates will be posted on Class Dojo if there are any changes to swimming.  Please ensure that uniform and PE kits are labelled.

Forest School

Forest school takes place throughout the year. You will be updated on Class Dojo when your child needs to come to school in Forest School clothing. This term Year 4 will have Forest School on Wednesday 2nd February.

My planning and preparation time will be on a Monday afternoon, children will be taught by Mrs Eyers, as well as having signature sports. They will also be taught by Mrs Cross on a Tuesday afternoon.

I will be updating you with messages, pictures and news on Class Dojo. Please do not hesitate to message me on Class Dojo for any reason, no matter how small.

Many thanks,

Miss Pawling
