Holy Family Catholic Primary School

Year 4 – St Teresa of Calcutta

Welcome to the Year 4 Class page

I hope that your children have enjoyed their first two terms in Year 4, they have returned with excellent attitudes towards their learning for this third term.  I am sure they will all continue the year in the same positive way.

I thought that I would send out some reminders:

Spellings

Each child is grouped by their spelling age. This process enables them to focus on the appropriate spellings they need to learn, in order to make further progress. The children will be given spellings each Monday and these should be practised daily.

Spellings are to be completed and returned to the allocated Spelling teacher on the morning of the following Monday when the children will be tested.

Reading books

All pupils will be given two school books to read. We would like children to read at least five times each week. It is vital that a record is made each time they read in their reading journal. Each week their reading record will be checked and their reading books will be changed.

You can support your child by listening to them read, asking them questions on the text; or by using a dictionary together to discover the meaning of any new vocabulary they encounter etc.

Once your child has reached ONE HUNDRED ‘reading sessions’, they will be rewarded with a book of their choice by Mrs. Summers-Breeze.

Please note reading books must be in school every day.

Homework

  • Your child will also be set a Homework Project every term (see attached sheet for more information).  Our first topic is entitled ‘Rivers and Coasts’.
  • The children should continue to use their Times Tables Rock Stars logon to practise their times tables.  This is very important.

P.E.

P.E. will be taught every Wednesday and Friday. However, please note that full P.E. Kit (white shorts, red t-shirts, plimsolls) need to be in school every day.  If your child wears earrings they must be able to remove them for P.E. If they cannot remove their earrings, in the interest of safety, please provide them with medical tape to cover them.

Going home

To assist in safeguarding your children, please make sure that if your child is going home with someone other than yourself, or different from previously arranged, please inform the school as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please feel free to come and see me at the beginning or end of the school day.

Thanking you for your support.
