We went on a trip around Bristol Harbour in a real Tudor ship called The Matthew! We found out about the different parts of the ship and the jobs pirates had to do on board. We saw where they would have slept and learned a little more about life on board a pirate ship long ago.

After that, we followed a pirate trail around the streets where the famous pirate Blackbeard once lived. We had to look out for the pirate barrels and we collected stamps on our treasure trail cards.

On our walk, we went to some of the inns where pirates used to hang out and drink rum (just to visit the outsides because we are only five and six!). We found out about the tunnels and caves where pirates stashed their loot or hid from the Royal Navy. We were amazed to find out that the pirates could use the tunnels to get from one place to another without being seen!

We had our lunch outside the oldest pub in Bristol, The Llandoger Trow... This was Blackbeard's favourite place to come! Then we had a giant game of tag in Queen Square, where the famous privateer, Woodes Rogers, once lived.

On the way back to the coach, we bumped into John Cabot, captain of The Matthew! He was looking across the harbour at his famous ship!

Finally, we got back to school, and shared some pirate treats as a reward for completing the pirate trail and finding all the barrels!
