Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE)
At Holy Family Catholic Primary School, we are committed to providing a high-quality Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum that reflects our Catholic ethos and mission. Our RSHE provision supports children in developing healthy relationships, understanding their God-given dignity, and growing emotionally, socially, morally and spiritually.
We deliver RSHE through Ten Ten's Life to the Full Plus programme, which has been approved for use in Catholic schools and is fully aligned with the Catholic Education Service's model curriculum. Life to the Full Plus meets all statutory Relationships Education and Health Education requirements whilst remaining faithful to Church teaching and values.
The programme supports our children in understanding themselves, their relationships with others and their place in God's world. Through carefully planned and age-appropriate learning, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and virtues needed to live healthy, safe and fulfilling lives.
Parent Information and Support
When we first introduced Ten Ten's Life to the Full programme, we shared a Parent Consultation Course which remains available for families. The course contains a series of short units designed to introduce parents and carers to the programme and support conversations at home. It provides an excellent overview of the themes covered throughout primary school and helps families support their child's social, moral, cultural and spiritual development.

Our Catholic Approach to RSHE
Following the guidance of the Bishops' Conference of England and Wales and the Department for Education, RSHE is embedded within our wider PSHE curriculum because it is concerned with nurturing the whole person.
Our programme is centred upon Christ's vision of human flourishing and promotes the understanding that every person is created, chosen and loved by God. Teaching is positive, age-appropriate and carefully planned to support children as they grow and mature.
All RSHE teaching is delivered in accordance with Catholic moral teaching. It emphasises the importance of family life, loving relationships, commitment and respect for human dignity. At the same time, we recognise and respect the diverse family backgrounds of all members of our school community and prepare children to live with kindness, understanding and respect in modern Britain.
What Children Learn
The Life to the Full Plus programme is delivered through three key modules:

Children learn about:

- Individual gifts and talents
- Healthy lifestyles
- Understanding feelings and emotions
Created to Love Others
Children learn about:
- Friendship and relationships
- Respect and kindness
- Family life
- Communities and belonging
- Personal boundaries
- Healthy and unhealthy behaviours in relationships
Created to Live in Community
Children learn about:
- Living within local and global communities
- Rights and responsibilities
- Citizenship
- Catholic Social Teaching
- Money and careers
- Stewardship and care for God's creation
In Upper Key Stage Two, children are also taught age-appropriate aspects of puberty, human development and reproduction as part of the statutory curriculum. These lessons are always delivered sensitively, using appropriate language and resources.
Responding to Children's Questions
As with all aspects of learning, children are naturally curious and may ask questions related to the topics they are studying. Opportunities for discussion form an important part of RSHE lessons, and all questions are handled with sensitivity, respect and professionalism.
Our aim is to ensure that children receive accurate information in a safe, supportive and age-appropriate environment.
Working in Partnership with Parents
Parents are the primary educators of their children, and we value the partnership between home and school. We welcome discussion about our RSHE curriculum and are always happy to share resources or explain lesson content.

Parent Rights
It is important to note that:
- Parents cannot withdraw their child from Relationships Education in primary school.
- Parents can request that their child be withdrawn from any non-statutory sex education lessons delivered in primary school that fall outside the Relationships Education curriculum.
- Maintained primary schools are required to teach the National Curriculum for Science, including aspects of human development and reproduction. Parents do not have the right to withdraw children from these lessons.
