Enrichment at Holy Family Catholic Primary School

At Holy Family, we believe that education is about much more than academic success. We are committed to providing a rich range of experiences that inspire curiosity, develop talents, build character and help every child discover their unique gifts.

Through carefully planned enrichment opportunities from Reception to Year 6, children are encouraged to learn, lead, perform, serve, compete and belong. These experiences complement classroom learning and help prepare pupils for life beyond primary school.

Bringing Learning to Life

Our curriculum is enriched through educational visits, visitors and hands-on experiences that help children make meaningful connections with their learning.

Examples include:

  • Library visits and local area learning
  • Farm visits
  • Bristol Zoo
  • Blaise Castle Museum
  • Bristol Harbour and The Matthew visits

These first-hand experiences help deepen understanding, increase engagement and create lasting memories.

  • Superstars SEND Club

We are committed to ensuring enrichment opportunities are accessible to all pupils. This year, we are introducing a new Superstars club after the October half term. This is specifically designed for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), providing opportunities for social interaction, confidence building, friendship development and participation in enjoyable activities tailored to pupils' needs and interests.

These activities help children develop teamwork, resilience, confidence and healthy lifestyles.

Music, Drama and the Arts

We encourage all children to develop their creativity and confidence through participation in the arts.

Opportunities include:

  • Annual Art Week inspired by significant artists using the Take One Picture approach
  • Piano lessons
  • Guitar lessons
  • Recorder Club
  • School concerts and performances
  • Annual Catholic schools choir event
  • Dance Festival with local schools
  • Theatre workshops and productions
  • Pantomime performances
  • Author visits during Book Week

These opportunities allow children to perform, create and express themselves with confidence.

Faith and Catholic Life

As a Catholic school, faith is at the heart of everything we do. Children participate in:

  • Church visits
  • Parish-led activities and visitors
  • Prayer and liturgy
  • Chaplaincy Team leadership
  • Advent residential experiences
  • Catholic Social Teaching workshops

Our Chaplaincy Team plays an important role in supporting prayer and worship and works alongside chaplaincy teams from other Catholic schools.

We are proud to be a diverse school community that includes families from a range of faith backgrounds and cultures. Alongside learning about Catholicism, pupils also learn about other world faiths and beliefs through the RE curriculum, interactive workshops and visits from members of our school community. Parents and family members have shared their own faith traditions and experiences with pupils, helping children develop understanding, respect and appreciation of the diverse society in which they live.

These experiences help children develop spiritually and understand how to live out Gospel values in everyday life.

Leadership and Responsibility

We believe every child should have the opportunity to contribute positively to school life.

Leadership opportunities include:

  • School Council
  • Eco Committee
  • Chaplaincy Team
  • Sports Leaders programme
  • House System

Our School Council members are elected by their peers after the first term, allowing children time to settle into their new classes before participating in the democratic process.

The Eco Committee helps lead environmental projects and encourages sustainable practices across the school.

Year 5 Sports Leaders receive specialist training before leading games and activities for younger pupils at lunchtimes.

These roles help children develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork and leadership skills.

Serving Others

We encourage children to make a positive difference in their local and global communities.

Throughout the year pupils participate in:

  • CAFOD fundraising
  • The Big Lent Walk
  • Reverse Advent Calendar
  • Foodbank collections
  • Charity fundraising events
  • Sports kit donations to children in South Africa
  • Community support projects

These experiences help children develop empathy, generosity and a sense of social responsibility.

Celebrating Diversity and Community

We are proud of our welcoming and inclusive school community.

Children take part in:

  • Black History Month
  • Learning about inspirational Black women
  • Cultures Evening celebrations
  • Online Safety Week
  • Avon and Somerset Police Cyber Protect workshops
  • Family and community events

Our house system also helps strengthen our sense of belonging. Every child belongs to one of four houses:

  • St Andrew
  • St David
  • St George
  • St Patrick

Children enjoy house events, competitions and opportunities to wear their house colours with pride.

Our Commitment

Through our carefully planned enrichment programme, every child at Holy Family is given opportunities to discover new interests, develop existing talents, build strong relationships and create lifelong memories.

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils benefit from a wide range of experiences that help them flourish academically, physically, socially, spiritually and emotionally.
