Reception: Saint Mary
Welcome to Reception!
Our class saint is Mary: Mother of God.
The Reception team this year includes Miss Child, Mrs Cappa and Miss Doinik. Miss Child is the class teacher and Mrs Cappa is the classes Teaching Assistant - both will be in class every day. Miss Doinik is a student/parent volunteer who will be with us every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
We have P.E. twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. Monday's session is taken by Miss Child and Friday's session will be taken by Mr Harris, a professional coach from Signature Sports. Please bring in your child's P.E. kit (white shorts, red polo top and black plimsolls) as soon as possible and ensure all pieces of uniform are labelled clearly with your child's name; this is also important for all other pieces of uniform too. Kits will be sent home at the end of each term to wash over the holidays and are expected to be back in school during the first week of the following term. For your child's safety it is also highly important that long hair is tied back and that no earrings are worn on P.E. days. If for any reason earrings cannot be removed, you will need to provide your child with tape or plasters that can cover them instead.
All children are provided with a piece of fruit or a vegetable every day, which they are welcome to eat during the morning session. Up until their 5th birthday they are also entitled to a carton of milk at break time. Water bottles are also encouraged in school, particularly in the warmer months. Juice/squash is NOT allowed in class.
Homework in Reception consists of:
- Weekly spellings;
- 1 or 2 reading books (changed weekly);
- Word pots to develop the children's segmenting and blending skills (changed weekly);
- Homework projects (twice every short term).
Reading books will be changed weekly. Please ensure that you bring your child's book bag into school every day as we use every opportunity possible to read with your children.
This page will be updated regularly, but if there is anything you would like to ask or discuss please feel free to arrange a meeting with us.
