A HUGE well done to The Hedgehogs for their performance of 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' at The Redgrave Theatre on 19th November 2015. They worked so hard to ensure that the play was a success.

"Year 5 are doing a Midsummer Night's Dream. We have been practising our play all the way through with costumes; here are the names of some characters: Hermia, Lysander, Helena, Demetrius, Theseus, Hippolyta, Bottom, Quince, Flute, Snout, Starveling, Snug, Puck, Oberon and Titania. Behind the scenes, Harry is doing the lighting, Sharon is doing the sound and Mr Handley is directing. We have worked really hard on this play and we will do our very best at the theatre." Dear Parents

I hope that the children really enjoyed their Easter holidays. They worked extremely hard in the Spring terms and they have a lot of high quality work in their books.

We had a fabulous  three days at Hooke Court  this year and we were blessed with glorious sunshine. The activities were once again really engaging and well organised and I’m sure the experience helped to develop each student’s spirit of independence and interpersonal skills. They were excellent ambassadors for Holy Family and all the adult team found them great company too.   The children will be working on their follow up assembly, to which you will all be invited and when you can see the ‘photostory’ of the trip and where the children will be given a certificate each. (date to be confirmed)

I would like to thank the children for leading the Lent Reconciliation Assembly and the Last Supper Assembly.  They really enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and the Maths Easter treasure trail, towards the end of the term.  We also had a great Victorian fun day in school, as part of our ‘10 bug reward.’ The year 5 children will be leading Mass in church, this Thursday morning.

Please find the Summer term curriculum overview overleaf/attached. The creative topic focus this term is The Aztecs. Please encourage your child  to research or read up on anything they can about The Aztecs. We will be doing a ‘green screen’ project this term, possibly on an Aztec theme.

Spellings continue to be taught every day, Mon-Friday, in differentiated groups. The spelling list to learn will be given out on the Friday and children will be tested  the following Friday. Spelling lists for term 5 for each group are also posted on the school website. Homework will continue to be given out on a Tuesday and collected in the following Tuesday. Forest Schools’ workshops will be continuing this term on Wednesday afternoons. Children will need their forest schools clothes every Wednesday.

Miss Arthur remains  our teaching assistant and Mrs Cappa changes reading books on a Thursday. Please encourage your child to read at home. The children were sad to wave goodbye to Miss Jarman at the end of term, following her successful placement with us. However, we are all looking forward to the return of Miss Cleary, who will be with us again for 2 days a week,  for the first four weeks of term 5, followed by her full time placement.

We will be visiting Westonbirt Arboretum, date to be confirmed,  for a day of orienteering and art activities. Details of the trip will be sent out later this month. Together with year 6, we will be going on a Biology taster day at Bristol University in July, which involves the children trying out field and lab work. We are also going on a pilgrimage to Glastonbury on 28th June.  We will arrange a class cake sale one day this Summer- any support will be greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank you all for your continued support.  I look forward to an exciting and busy Summer term. If you want to find out more about the curriculum to be covered this term, please come in.

Kind Regards

Mr  Handley
