Below you'll find the information on homework and all things Year 6.

Our Class Saint is Saint Oscar Romero

Saint Oscar Romero is considered the predecessor of human rights defenders in El Salvador. He has inspired millions of people around the world - Catholics and non-Catholics alike - to stand up for justice and fight for peace.

Today, his legacy is more important than ever.

Autumn Term

We are looking forward to welcoming your children back.

We continue to use Class Dojo as our main method of communication, but please catch us before school starts or at the end of the day if a face to face chat is easier. Alternatively, meetings can be arranged via direct message. Also, keep an eye out for news and other useful information on our School and Class Dojo Pages, and check out our webpage for photo galleries, letters and other educational links.

Our Team

Mrs Emissah is the Year Six class teacher. Our wonderful teaching assistants are Mrs Scriven and Miss Arthur.

Please feel free to send a message via Class Dojo or speak to a member of the team if you have anything you would like to ask or discuss.

Reading Books

All pupils will be given one school book to read from our reading scheme, children will then be encouraged to choose a book to read for pleasure from their class library.
Free readers can continue to choose a book from the class library to read.
In Year 6, we would like children to read as often as possible, at least three times each week. Reading a range of books is highly important to improve comprehension in preparation for secondary schools (and SATs).
All reading must be logged on 'BoomReader’
Please ensure all reading books are handed in on Thursday so that they can be changed to go home the following day. We appreciate many books are several pages long and therefore may be read over a longer period.
Reading regularly is the most important activity they can do to improve in all aspects of school.

Maths

Arithmetic homework will be set every day. It must be completed and returned by the next day. Not all questions will be covered yet so don’t worry if mistakes are made!
A Google drive link will be posted on Dojo so that all parents have access to our class revision folders and powerpoints.
Regular times table practice on TT rockstars is recommended, particularly if this is something your child needs to focus on.

Spelling, grammar and punctuation

Spelling Shed games will continue this year. Pupils need to complete 7/7 games for that week. There is a spellings SATs test so make sure to get practising! There will also be a grammar activity on Spelling Shed to keep them ticking over.

PE and Forest Schools

PE will be taught every Tuesday and Friday. Pupils can continue to wear PE kit to school on these days (must be white shorts/ black joggers, trainers, red t-shirts). Forest school will continue to take place every term. They may need wellies for this, weather permitting.
Friday afternoon continues to be our preparation and planning time. Signature sports will take a PE session during this half of the afternoon.

Going home

To assist in safeguarding your children, it is very important that you please make sure that you inform the school by phone/ email, and myself in person (or on Dojo) if your child is allowed to walk home by themselves. If pupils are bringing phones into school, these must be given to Mrs Collins in the school office at the beginning of the day to be stored safely.

Class information, achievements and celebrations will be continued to be shared on our Class Dojo please, so please keep checking this regularly for messages and updates.

As always, please feel free to speak to us at the door, or contact us on class dojo about anything, no matter how small. Year 6 is a fantastic year, full of lots of opportunities, but it is also a time where pupils are continuing to grow into young adults and all the social and emotional challenges that come with that – our role is to not only teach them, but support them in this development too.
